- to see images in a literary text
to mean more than what they are
- to develop sensitivity to the language of literature
- to interpret the creative uses of the language in the meaning-making

Literature offers the opportunity to our students to
- perceive ideas and evaluate their worth
- take a stand on issues raised in a literary text
- weigh the truth and consequences of certain viewpoints they are exposed to

III. PRACTICE

Techniques in Introducing the Literary Text:
- listening to a song
- making graphic illustrations of the setting, characters or scenes in the story
- making a photograph study
- sampling random lines or passages from a text

Techniques in Presenting the Literary Text:
- Reading the text live by the teacher
- Listening to a recording of the text
- Presenting slides
- Using transparencies
- Jigsaw reading

Techniques to use after reading a Literary text
- Producing mime or dance interpretation
- Reciting the text or reading interpretatively
- Doing a reader's theater
- Responding to the text through journal writing
- Adapting the text to another genre
